Curious about tele-therapy. I’m a PhD psychologist. How do you recognize affect and challenge clients when they are not being honest if it is done over the telephone? Or do you just assume they are being honest if they are participating?
I have wondered about that. There have been several seminars recently in Arkansas (where I reside) and Louisiana (teach as a professor at Grambling State and my doctorate is from Louisiana Tech) about training in tele-therapy.
Also fees. Do you accept insurance? Or is it a cash/credit card per session type of arrangement? I have private practice in Arkansas as well.
Anyway. I just wondered. I value my face-to-face opportunities to interact and witness vocal changes, changes in affect and body language. And honestly, I wondered if this was effective or not.

Thanks so much for your thoughts. I do teletherapy via Skype. I’ve found it allows me to see patients but to also allow them to be in the comfort of their own home. I tell clients to get a snack, drink, etc. Then i askthey be ready to sit somewhere for 30-60 min, depending on their season length, no phones and no interruptions. I don’t take insurance, as I’m working on my psyD now. $45 for 30 min and $75 for 60, first session is free
