Today’s All About Me writing prompt, found here, is to write about the thing we wish we were better at (don’t tell my mother I ended a sentence with a preposition lol).I’m a huge fan of learning something new everyday. It’s virtually impossible to not get better at something when you are constantly learning it. That being said, there are some things that will remain a mystery if you just do not have the aptitude to do it. Even though my company is social media marketing, I am the computer village idiot. My boys will try to talk to me about the minutae and I just don’t get it. It’s like Charlie Brown’s teacher talking: *waaa waaa waaa waaaahhh.*
Nope, not a word.
You see, social media is basically the people side of computer. The people side I get. In fact, that’s probably the best way to describe what I do. Imagine computer technology as its own world, like medicine it has its own language. If you don’t learn it, you won’t be as successful practicing it. Social media is the human side of computers. It is used to connect people to the millions of companies in the world. There are literally billions of people on our planet right now. Let that sink in. Memphis, for instance, has upwards of 2 million folks. 7.4 BILLION people reside on our little hunk of rock. 2% of that is 140 million, that’s half of the USA.
So what do I spend a large portion of my day doing? Learning, reading, researching. My 11 year old often thinks that he should be able to try something and be awesome at it on his first try! This just isn’t going to happen. You’ve got to have realistic goals and a realistic time frame within which to accomplish them.
As for something more personal that I wish I was better at… I always was sorry I didn’t spend more time focusing on one type of dance style when I was younger. I love So You Think You Can Dance and Dancing With The Stars so much. Dance and music have the ability to touch someone in a way nothing else can. I took tap, jazz, ballet, modern dance, cheer-leading, and more, but I never really focused on any one dance. As a result, I’m a good dancer in most styles, but not great. If I had spent my time focused on one style, I could have been a contenda!
What do you wish you were better at?

After much thought and deliberation, I’ve decided to make a clean break and change the company name before I go any further. Therefore, the former Global Media Mavens is now PsychMediaOne. Website is under construction. Until then, please join us on: (Instagram) PsychMediaOne, (FB) PsychMediaOne, (Pintrest) PsychMediaOne, and (Twitter) @psych_media1.
“Charlie Brown’s teacher talking: *waaa waaa waaa waaaahhh.*”…not just me then. I am always intending that ‘next week’ I will start some serious getting to know about all these ‘cyber things’ and how Facebook/Twitter works; then something else turns up.
(Next week I really must start learning more about WordPress)

My sound strange but I would like to get better at communicating with other humans face to face and get away from so much social media.

I think the trick isnt about getting rid of one or the other but about striking a better balance

I wish I was better at cooking and baking. I want to be able to make food that tastes like it was made by a high-paid chef. 🙂

Ikr! I can do anything with a recipe but I can’t just take items and make a dish like they do on t.v.!

I can follow a recipe, but it doesn’t always turn out right. Seems like you need talent to be a good cook, just like you need a green thumb to grow stuff.
