For day 30 of the June 1-30 challenge, found here, we are talking about books! One of my favorite subjects! I think I could probably go on for days about books, but we’re supposed to give 30 choices for good books. I’m sure I could come up with way more, but:

For the adult reader that likes thrillers, Dean R. Koontz has been my favorite author since I read his books Lightening and Watchers in the 80s! Those are still two of my favorite books of his, even though I’ve read everything he’s ever written! For those of you who do not love Stephen King (like me!) don’t count out Dean Koontz. His Odd Thomas series is another one that is a must read.

For the ladies that like romance, few do romance better than Sandra Brown. She was a Harlequin writer for many years. In the past 10 or so, she has begun writing longer books with more plot. Ricochet is a good one. Also, Play Dirty, White Hot, and The Alibi!

If you like romance but want a little more, I will direct you to Janet Evanovitch’s Stephanie Plum series. The first one is called One for the Money (if you saw the Katherine Heigl movie, that’s it) and they are all truly hilarious! I laugh out loud the entire read!

Jayne Ann Krentz writes in a very similar fashion to Sandra Brown and Evanovitch. The Arcane Society novels are particularly enjoyable, as I like a bit of supernatural in my books.

Ken Follett was suggested to me by a parent when I was young. I’ve loved him ever since. He writes mostly spy novels, but has a couple of books set in the Middle Ages, World Without End and The Pillars of the Earth. Recently, he published The Century Trilogy. It follows an American, British, German, and Russian family through World War 1, World War 2, and the Cold War. If, like me, you’re not a huge fan of history, this is a great way to get your dose! Historically accurate and extremely well-written, this is not for the faint of heart as each book is around 1000 pages.

A new series I recently started and am really enjoying is The Jade Calhoun series by Deanna Chase. The first book is called Haunted on Bourbon Street. As you may have guessed, this is a paranormal fiction book. Clever and well-done.

I do also enjoy YA fiction and there are quite a few good series here.

P.C. and Kristin Cast, a mother and daughter team, have a book series called the House of Night series. It is also paranormal, well written, and interesting. The first book in the series is Marked.

Cassandra Clare has several YA paranormal series, based on Shadowhunters. The three trilogies are called The Mortal Instruments series, The Dark Artifices, and The Infernal Devices series. All different characters, all good! Enjoy!

Morgan Rice is a fairly unknown author. I happened to run across her vampire series while looking for paranormal fiction. It is good, but her Survival Trilogy (Arena 1, Arena 2, and Arena 3) are all quite good. Novels in the vein of the Divergent Series. Her other series that I really enjoyed is set in a Middle Aged setting, but in modern day. Plenty of monsters and trials, tribulations and tests, this series is called the Sorcerer’s Ring and the first book is A Quest of Heroes.

I know most of the people who were interested may have already checked out the Sookie Stackhouse novels (True Blood) by Charlaine Harris. If you haven’t, you really should! Short (250-350 pages each) and fun! The tv show really took a serious departure from the novels after season 2, so if you went off the show, don’t go off the book! She’s got a new series now, the Midnight Texas series, Midnight Crossroad, Day Shift, and Night Shift.

The Beautiful Creatures series by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl is a great series. They’re called The Caster Chronicles and if you enjoy supernatural, you’ll probably enjoy them quite a bit.

Rick Riordian writes the Percy Jackson novels (you may remember the movies), but he also has a series with Roman Mythology (opposed to Greek for Percy) and one with Egyptian mythology. I’m a sucker for a good mythology story and his are very good.

Last, but certainly not least, the late, great Sidney Sheldon. The writing force behind I Dream Of Jeanie, Sheldon also wrote scores of amazing books. His work is now carried on via ghost writer, Tilly Bagshawe, who does an excellent job of gathering his essence into her writing. The first book of his I have read, Bloodline, still remains my likely favorite. Master of the Game has been an extremely popular book for him as well.

I’m not sure if that’s exactly 30, but hopefully it will start you off right with any of these authors if they’re new to you.
