Get ready to scratch out 2015 for the next few months, because 2016 has arrived! It came in with a bump for us, not a bang, but that was okay. We’ve had quite a few bangs the past few years, none of them very fun, so I’m cool with a bump. I don’t make resolutions. I never have. To be honest, I don’t quite get the allure. You spend hours making a list of things you want to improve, a list you may not look at again until 2017. It seems like it would be so much easier to just try to do better.

We all know what we want to improve or change in our lives, but that resolution list is like a book assigned for school. I’m sure its a good book, but since they’re making me read it, its going to take me foreverrrrrrr to get through it. I LOVE to read. I read 3-5 books a week, sometimes several books at a time. But, the second I’m assigned a book for school, I develop a mental block against the book. Each page is like heavy, soul-crushing reading. I don’t know why it happens, I just know it does.

This year, instead of writing down those resolutions, think about the things you want for this year. Perhaps, instead of wanting to lose 10 pounds, maybe just having your clothes fit better is more realistic. When we tie ourselves up with what the scale says, we are setting ourselves up for failure. Why not resolve to be more loving to your SO, or to laugh more with your children, or to call your mother more often. Resolve to do something that really matters. That’s the way to follow through on a New Year’s Resolution.

Happy 2016!! May the odds be ever in your favor!!
